Portrait or landscape: which format for your listing video?

9:16 or 16:9? Where each format performs, how your photos affect the choice, and why you probably need both.

Portrait or landscape: which format for your listing video?

Where each format wins

  • Vertical 9:16 fills the phone screen — the default on Instagram Reels, TikTok, Stories and YouTube Shorts
  • Horizontal 16:9 fits the players on listing portals, YouTube and most websites

Your photos matter

Most listing photos are horizontal. In a vertical video, the sides of each photo are cropped, so keep the important part of each room near the centre of the frame. In a horizontal video you keep the whole room.

Use both

You don't have to choose. Post the vertical version on social media and the horizontal one on portals and your website.

With Imoframe you can switch format after delivery: the video is re-cut from the same shots, nothing is regenerated and there is nothing to pay.
